Job Description:

Saab, Inc., is seeking a Director of Business Development (U.S. Army/U.S. Marine Corps) to be responsible for the profitable growth of its U.S. and Swedish Defense businesses through identification of new business opportunities and customers. You will be responsible for over-the-horizon identification, evaluation, shaping, and qualification of new business opportunities in the U.S. Land Forces (USA, USMC, National Guard). You will monitor competitive activity, identify customer needs, shape Saab solutions to those needs and hand off to Division Marketing & Sales teammates or Saab affiliates to capture.  You will be responsible to develop partnerships and alliances with other stakeholders including companies and government liaisons. You may represent Division interests in GRO activities through close collaboration with Division Marketing & Sales Leadership.  This may be a remote position with primary duties located in the Washington, D.C. region, however with customer responsibilities that span continental US and its’ territories. This role will report to the Saab Inc. Senior Director of Business Development.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and grow new and existing customer relationships with the customer community (Acquisition Systems Commands, Resource Sponsors, Operational and Administrative Commanders, and Saab global business development colleagues).

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the Saab products within the portfolio and work with Saab affiliates (AB, Inc. business unit leads) to identify opportunities to capture U.S. market share.

  • Work autonomously to influence and partner with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain excellent relations with customers. Ensure continuing customer relations and an effective flow of information to deliver business objectives.

  • Coordinate with U.S. DoD acquisition and program offices to identify mission needs, capabilities, and requirements in support of technical inputs and concept of operations to develop system solutions.

  • Coordinate and conduct all aspects of business development capture management following all required processes and preparing products for the capture of major pursuits within the military and commercial markets.

  • Prepare and conduct Business Development generated, gate reviews (Saab Win Business Process) prior to hand off to Marketing Sales team members. Support Marketing & Sales generated gate reviews as necessary.

  • This position may require up to 40% of travel away from local office throughout the year.

    Compensation Range: $212,000-$280,900

    The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

    Skills and Experience:

    • Retired U.S. Army Senior Military (O5/O6) (Operational/Acquisition) 

    • 10+ years of Business Development in defense industry and/or relevant military operational experience.

    • Knowledge of DoD acquisition process, and government procurement policies and procedures.

    • Knowledge of DoD POM process and Defense budgets.

    • Advanced Degree in Business, Engineering, or Defense War College National Strategy

    • Proven outstanding leadership, communication, strategic planning, Voice of the Customer and relationship management skills.

    • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Secret level clearance.

    • Must possess outstanding leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.

    • Experience with Foreign Military Sales.

    • Experience working with NATO is a plus.

    Citizenship Requirements:

    Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
